GER 11 Dietzel, Zeileis and Ramoser wins at the 2024 Italian Championship

GER 11 ends up winning the Italian Championship, after Saturday and Sunday without races due to excessive winds at lake Como, their dominance at the first day was impressive crowing Michael Dietzel, Martin Zeileis and Hannes Ramoser from the Bayersiche Yacht Club and Segel Klub Kammersee(AUT). ITA 259 with Bruno Maffezzoli and Pierfrancesco Maffezzoli together with Leonardo>? from the Peschiera d Garda receive the honor as Italian Champions. They were followed by local team heroes ITA 252 with Alberto de Amicis, Luca Negri and Marco de Amicis.
Next event for the Soling Class in Italy will be at the first weekend of June also at the Circolo Vela Bellano.

First day of racing:
Quite cold weather (at least for Italy) welcomed sailors on Friday and this caused the usual south wind to come quite late in the afternoon and the first race attempt to be aborted on the second windward leg of the race with GER-11 leading and ITA-252 following.

Then three races could be held with the first start at 4 pm with the usual southern wind.
On the first one GER-11 tool the lead since the beginning over ITA-259 and ITA-252, while ITA-119 had a premature start and had to come back and restart. Situation did not change that much during the second leg.

On the second race, the same three boats had a good start while unfortunately ITA-119 was again over the starting line and had to restart. On the first mark ITA-252 was first followed by GER-11 , which managed to pass first during the downwind. For the remaining part of the race ITA-252 could control the comeback of ITA-259., ITA-134 had a fantastic fourth place as newcomers to the class and also considering their “old” Elvstrom boat.

On the third race it was the turn of ITA-252 to have a bad start and struggling to recover positions managing to finish on fourth place behind AUT-86.

This Saturday morning crews were welcomed by 25 knots from North with a Start planned for 0900am, but they had to wait on shore, we’ll see how the situation evolve hoping it will be possible to race.
